Frequently Asked Questions
What is live streaming?
Live streaming is the distribution of your content over the Internet to your audience in real time. Most AM/FM stations use live streaming because they create their own content and simulcast it on the Internet. There are several ways to create and distribute content. For live streaming all you need is a PC or Mac with an audio or mic input, streaming software (which we can provide) and an Internet connection. Simply plug your audio into the audio input on your computer, turn on the software and it will send the stream to us. Our servers power your stream to reach your audience worldwide. If you need help or have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us here.
What is on-demand streaming?
On-demand streaming works by uploading your audio or video file to our servers. When listeners click a play button on your website it plays the file on demand from your site. Our system is designed to make managing the process very easy for you and impressive for your audience. You simply login to our custom web based control panel, click a button to select your audio or video file on your desktop and it will automatically upload it to our server. On demand is perfect for short form audio or video programming. Additionally the content can be password protected so you can use our on demand stream hosting for educational, or marketing purposes. Our on-demand streaming also allows you to run audio or video pre-rolls and banner ads as well if you wish to monetize your program(s).
Do you provide Shoutcast and Icecast streaming?
Yes we provide both Shoutcast and Icecast stream hosting.
What is Cloud Automation?
Some broadcasters prefer to host their content in the cloud, which is just a nickname for the Internet. Our cloud broadcasting uses two different methods, one is our basic Auto DJ. For more advanced broadcasters we also have Windows Media servers which can run your favorite automation software. Rather than having dedicated computers or software, you can upload your audio files to your cloud servers and access them from any computer, anywhere.
Do you have mobile apps?
Yes, we have branded mobile apps for iPhone and Android platforms.
How do people listen to my station?
Your content can play on many different platforms including pop-up or embedded players on your website, on apps for iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows, Symbian phones including most devices, tablets, Internet radios, iPods, iPads, Tablets, PC, Mac, Bluetooth and Internet powered car dashboards, Wi-Fi networks and more.
What is automation software?
Automation software basically runs your radio station automatically. You set up the parameters, music rotations, where you want voice overs, promos, ads and other content to play and it does everything while you go do something else. There are several high quality automation programs for PC and Mac. You won’t need automation software however if you’re using a cloud server.
What kind of internet connection do I need?
You will need a DSL/Cable (or faster) Internet connection. We do not provide these services. If you don’t already have an Internet connection you will need to contact an Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Xfinity, Centurylink. Verizon, Time Warner, etc. Most home broadband connections are usually fast enough for most streaming.
What kind of computer do I need?
Depending on the type of streaming you choose to do you can use pretty much any PC with Windows XP or newer and any Mac with OS X or later. If you’re doing live streaming you will need a soundcard in your computer. Most PC’s and Macs come with soundcards built in, you can tell if it has a microphone input that works or a line-in jack on the device. So if you have an older PC laying around, you can put it work! We are happy to answer your questions about this – feel free to contact us.
What is an encoder?
An encoder is either hardware or software that you feed your audio into. It converts your audio into a digital signal and sends it to our servers. From there we broadcast it out onto the Internet for you. There are many types of encoders from free encoder software with limited features to more advanced encoder software with multi-band audio processing, stream recording and more built in. Contact us if you have questions about the best encoder solution for your stream and format.
