Frequently Asked Questions

What is live streaming?

The simplest way to describe live streaming is what goes in is what comes out. If you have a PC or Mac you can install our encoder software and it will broadcast whatever audio is feeding through the computer. Say you want to stream your studio, simply plug the output from your mixer into the audio input on your computer and you’re on the air! If you want to do a remote broadcast you can use your laptop, tablet or smart phone with a headset and mic. With a good wireless internet connection you’re ready to broadcast live.

What are on-demand streaming and Podcasting?

On-demand and Podcasting often get confused because they are very similar. In our case On-demand is where you upload an mp3 file of your audio content and then it streams like a live radio station through a responsive player on your website. A Podcast is also an On-demand mp3 file but it becomes a Podcast when you upload it to Apple iTunes or other Podcast distribution sites where your audience can subscribe to it. We provide both On Demand and Podcast Hosting, contact us if you have further questions.

Do you provide Shoutcast and Icecast streaming?

Yes we provide both Shoutcast and Icecast stream hosting.

What is Cloud Hosting?

Some broadcasters prefer to host their content in the cloud, which is just a nickname for the Internet. Our cloud broadcasting uses two different methods, one is our basic Auto DJ. For more advanced broadcasters we also have Windows Media servers which can run your favorite automation software. So instead of using dedicated computers to run your station you can upload your audio files to a virtual computer in our cloud and manage them from any computer, anywhere.

What is automation software?

Automation software basically runs your radio station automatically. You set up the parameters, music rotations, where you want voice overs, promos, ads and other content to play and it does everything while you go do something else. There are many high quality automation programs for PC and Mac. We will be happy to send you more information.

What kind of internet connection do I need?

You will need an internet upload connection speed of at least 1MB per second or faster. If you don’t already have an Internet connection you will need to contact an Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Xfinity, Centurylink. Verizon, Time Warner, etc. or find someone who will let you login to their connection.

What kind of computer do I need?

Depending on the type of streaming you choose to do you can use pretty much any PC with Windows XP or newer and any Mac with OS X or later. If you’re doing live streaming you will need a soundcard in your computer. Most PC’s and Macs come with soundcards built in, you can tell if it has a microphone input that works or a line-in jack on the device. So if you have an older PC or Mac gathering dust somewhere, you can put it work! Questions? Contact us.
